Determination of the mechanical parameters of the skin using non-contact measurement systems - videoextensometers

Knowledge about the skin mechanical properties is essential in several domains, particularly for clinical applications and cosmetic industry. It can help to evaluate skin disease. The complex structure of the skin leads to complex mechanical behaviour [1, 2, 3]. The aim of this study was to measure the mechanical properties of the skin in the different directions and regions. The ethical and immunological issues associated with testing human skin request us to find a substitute for human skin. Pig skin was chosen as test samples due to its high degree of structural and functional similarities to human skin [4, 5, 6].
